If you are using LinkedIn for business development, the more prepared you are with templates, the easier your sales activities will be. I have found there are 5 messages I use often. While I believe you should have these templates at your disposal, you can still do your best to personalize them when you can – but having the template to begin the writing process can save you hours a week.
1. The invitation. In almost every case you should customize an invitation, and refer to the reason you are connecting. That being said, it is always good to have a go to standard connection request, just in case.
Template Example#1:
NAME, Your name came up on LinkedIn as someone I should connect with so I wanted to reach out and introduce myself. Let’s connect and explore ways we might be able to benefit one another’s network.
2. The welcome message. If you are using LinkedIn to get more conversations with the right people than you need to ask. There are many LinkedIn experts that will tell you not to ask too quickly, but I believe if you are offering value, it is perfectly acceptable to do so. This is, of course, a personal preference, but it has worked wonders for my clients and me.
Template Example#2:
Thanks so much for connecting. Often I like to have a brief call with my new connection so we can explore how we may be able to help each other now or in the future.
If you are interested, I would be very happy to share some LinkedIn and social selling insights that could benefit you and your sales team.
If you are open to an introductory call, I invite you to visit http://ScheduleaCallwithBrynne.com and pick a time that is most convenient for you.
I am looking forward to speaking with you.

3. The Introduction Request. You may find a shared connections when identifying prospects or centers of influence that you’d like to leverage. Make it as easy as possible for them to make introductions on your behalf with this simple message:
Template Example#3:
I hope this note finds you well. As you may know, I am leveraging LinkedIn to grow my network and noticed that you are connected to XX at XX. I was wondering if you would kindly provide an introduction for me. If you could copy us both in an email or LinkedIn message I can take it from there. To make it easier for you, I have included a short paragraph below that you are welcome to copy and paste.
Also, please feel free to look through my connections, I am happy to make introductions for you as well.
Thanks so much!
Brynne

4. Who’s Viewed Your Profile. This is where so many people get stuck – “They looked at me, now what?” The response to this could be an inMail or a connection request, why not? The looked at you first! But this connection request needs to acknowledge that you know they looked.
Template Example#4:
Thanks so much for visiting my profile. I had a chance to look at yours and would like to invite you to connect and explore ways we may be able work together now or in the future.
5. Outstanding Invitations. In this case you have three choices. First, you can accept them and send template #2. Next, you can ignore them. Or, if you are on the fence you can reply but not accept yet. I think it is important not to ignore people that request to connect, as you may be missing on opportunity even if it doesn’t seem that way.
Let’s start with how to navigate the reply not accept steps:
- Click on the outstanding connections icon on the top right of your profile (person with a + sign)
- Hover over the message icon on the top right of the connection request
- Click on the arrow on the top of the message to send a message without connecting
Template Example#5:
Thank you for requesting to connect with me on LinkedIn. Typically I only connect with people I know, may I ask how you found me?
